Felicia Garfield, LCSW

I hold a master’s degree in Social Work from New York University’s Silver School of Social work and three year Post Graduate training in Psychoanalysis from The Institute for Child, Adolescent, and Family Studies. I also have advanced trauma training in Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy (Level 2), The Safe and Sound Protocol, and Couples therapy through the Relational Life Institute. With over 25 years of experience, I bring a balanced, down-to-earth approach that combines evidence-based tools with genuine care, and understanding.

For the past 15 years, I had the privilege of working at the renowned Soho Parenting Center as a senior therapist, offering play therapy to children, parent guidance, couples counseling, individual psychotherapy and clinical supervision to therapists on staff. During my many years at Soho Parenting, I also performed in-school observations in order to assess children that were having behavioral or learning challenges such as ADHD or Sensory Processing Disorder. I collaborated with the schools and provided parents with outside resources when needed such as referrals for play or occupational therapy, or a neuropsychological evaluation to assess the child’s current academic and social/emotional needs.

Working closely with the two Directors Jean Kunhardt and Lisa Spiegel, I received years of training, and supervision in Internal Family Systems and Relational Life Couples Therapy. While there, I was also a member of Terry Real’s supervision group, founder of RLT, and trained with Marla Silverman a senior IFS couples consultant in how to use Internal Family Systems in couples counseling.

These influences continue to shape my approach today – It is compassionate, direct, and grounded in strategies that support healing, growth, and lasting change.

What the Directors at Soho Parenting have to say:

Felicia’s incredible dedication to the people she works with is something I have always admired. I always know clients are in good hands when they are with her.

Jean Kunhardt- Director Soho Parenting

Working with Felicia for so many years has been a gift. Her ability to guide families toward healthy relationships is her superpower!

My early career began at a Mental Health Agency where I worked as a Child Therapist supporting families with complex trauma and special needs. At the time I understood that working with parents was integral to helping a child. Once per month meetings with a parent was not nearly enough to help a family thrive, so I developed and directed the center’s first parenting program. This program offered more consistent, and comprehensive support to the entire family system.

Whether you’re hoping to strengthen your relationships, better understand your child, or feel more grounded in yourself, I offer a thoughtful, collaborative space to work together.
